Client of the Month: BrandAwaken

BrandAwaken™ is passionate about helping businesses energize their brands.

They started in 2009 as graphic design firm Zuli Creative®, but soon realized they were much more than that. Through strategic design, that combined creativity with an understanding of the client’s business, they were able to strengthen the client’s brand and truly support the marketing message.

Over the years, they found that the real value came when a business understood the essence of their brand. This “brand discovery” became a key part of the process, and in Spring 2016, they changed the name to BrandAwaken. Now they have a proprietary branding process that starts with interactive sessions designed to help the client gain a deep understanding of their strengths and unique place in the market. This helps their clients have more effective marketing that truly connects with their ideal customer.

We at Romero Park have enjoyed working with Susan and the team at BrandAwaken, as they build their own brand around the new name. We look forward to working with them on this journey, and wish them much success.

Client of the Month: Buckley Recycle Center, Inc.

Buckley Recycle Center, Inc. (BRC, Inc.) opened in 1996 with the primary goal of effectively recycling land clearing debris; they were “green” before it was cool. BRC, Inc. knew there was a better use for these leftovers than just burning them like most other contractors. They started grinding the old wood down into Hog Fuel – a product which allows the refuse to be utilized as fuel.  Now companies all over the state are using this fuel to replace their typical fossil fuels. In addition to creating a greener fuel source, BRC, Inc. offers a wide range of other services. They can help with everything from excavating and clearing land to providing new top soil once you’re done. BRC, Inc. is proud to say they are a licensed and bonded contractor that is WBE and DBE certified.

BRC is a wonderful client and we at Romero Park look forward to continuing this relationship.  We wish them many more years of success!

Exciting New Services at Romero Park!

As you may know, Romero Park P.S. has now been in business for over 21 years.  We have dedicated ourselves to helping individuals and businesses with their legal needs; and have not expanded our services outside of this space – until now.  We are very pleased to announce that one of our attorneys, Craig Simmons, is now available to help our clients, and future clients, with their personal injury needs!

On a number of occasions our clients/contacts have asked us to represent them in their personal injury cases, and we have historically declined because we are a “boutique business law firm.”  We estimate that over the years we have referred out over 100 personal injury cases to attorneys in the state of Washington.  We decided that when our clients are injured, we want to be willing and able to help them out with more than a referral.  With that in mind, last year Craig started taking on some smaller personal injury matters.  Both he and our firm are now confident in our firm’s ability to handle large personal injury matters (but will still refer out the more complex matters).  Accordingly, if you or someone you know is ever injured, please contact Craig Simmons of our firm and he will help you out!

Thank you for thinking of us now for not just your business matters, but also your personal injury matters. Please feel free to call us today at (425) 450-5000 if you have any questions or to set up a meeting.

Estate Planning – Who needs it?

The answer is everyone. Many people feel they are too young or they do not have enough assets for a Last Will and Testament. Others may feel they are too healthy for a Health Care Directive or a Power of Attorney. Yet is it really ever too early to start planning for your loved ones’ peace of mind?

It is easy to think of estate planning as simply having a Last Will and Testament in place, but it is so much more than that. Having a properly planned estate ensures that not only will your needs and wishes will be met, but that your loved ones will continue to be cared long after you have passed. A properly set up Trust can provide money to your young child for their education once they reach a certain age. A Health Care Directive can take the burden of hard decisions off of your family during trying times.

While it can seem overwhelming, an estate plan is something that should be established sooner rather than later. Although there are “do-it-yourself” estate planning forms, they only cover the minimum requirements and cannot be customized. Based on the complexity of your estate, you may find that the DIY forms will not meet your needs. Establishing a personalized estate plan from the start will help avoid many headaches later on.

If you are not sure about whether or not an estate plan is right for you, your best option is to speak with an attorney. Take our quick quiz below to see if it might be a good option for you!

  1. Are you 18 years of age or older?
  2. Are you married?
  3. If yes to #2, do you own any separate property?
  4. Do you own any personal property?
  5. Do you have any children?
  6. If yes to #5, do you wish to choose a guardian for them?
  7. Do you own a home?
  8. Do you have specific wishes regarding the use of life support?
  9. Would you prefer to be buried or cremated?
  10. Do you wish to control the disposition of your assets?
  11. Do you wish to decide who will act as Personal Representative for your estate?
  12. Do you have any of the following: stocks, bonds, IRA accounts, bank accounts, or life insurance?
  13. Do you have any loved ones that require special needs?

If you answered yes to at least two of the above questions, you should consider beginning your estate planning process.

Please feel free to contact us today at (425) 450-5000 for help with all your estate planning needs.

Client of the Month: Better Buzz Coffee

In the early 2000s, Better Buzz Coffee started selling premium coffee out of a single kiosk. In the following years, Better Buzz played an integral role in helping establish San Diego’s craft coffee revolution, which in turn contributed to the company’s growth and emergence as a market leader. Currently, Better Buzz serves nearly all of San Diego’s coastal communities, with six full-service coffee shops ranging from Point Loma to Encinitas. It also operates its own roasting facility in San Marcos where it roasts all of its beans to ensure freshness—this uniquely sets it apart from its competitors.

Romero Park is proud to be a part of the Better Buzz team, and we were honored to recently help them celebrate the opening of their two newest locations in Point Loma and Encinitas in 2015. We would also like to congratulate Better Buzz on recently becoming a CCOF and USDA certified organic roaster. We wish them continued success in the years to come!

For more information about Better Buzz, visit their website at www.betterbuzzcoffee.com or visit one of their six locations: Point Loma, Mission Beach, Mission Valley, Pacific Beach, Encinitas, or San Marcos.
